Course Description:

Human beings are recruited, advertised, traded, bought, sold, and even rented on websites, chat rooms, social media platforms, online classified advertisement sites, and communication platforms. This course introduces participants to cyber-enabled human trafficking, particularly sex trafficking, the online platforms used to facilitate cyber-enabled sex trafficking, and the methods traffickers use to lure and exploit trafficking victims. Participants will gain practical knowledge of the methods, tools, and special investigative techniques used to detect human trafficking and identify perpetrators and victims
of cyber-enabled sex trafficking.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

●Distinguish between human trafficking, human smuggling, sex work, and various forms of human trafficking.
●Identify common characteristics of sex trafficking victims and offenders, the relationship between victims and offenders, and the locations where sex trafficking occurs.
●Describe cyber-enabled aspects of human trafficking and the online platforms where it occurs.
●Critically evaluate the language, emojis, and tattoos in images that can be used to identify cyber-enabled human trafficking.
●Differentiate between the tools and investigative techniques employed to investigate cyber-enabled human trafficking.
●Apply the lessons and concepts from successful law enforcement case studies to demonstrate participants’ investigative skills and abilities.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of course completion.

The course is only open to U.S. state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and judges.
