Cryptocurrency Investigations Training

This course is only open to U.S. state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and judges.

Course Description: Taught by academics and investigators who consistently encage with various aspects of cryptocurrency for their careers, this one-day course educates participants on cryptocurrency and its relevance to criminal justice agents and investigations. The course will cover in depth topics such as the different categories of cryptocurrency, common cryptocurrencies, the mining process, blockchain, and cases where cryptocurrency is used or IS the target or criminal activity. Participants will gain knowledge of investigative options that are available to gather intelligence, so that they can have a more advanced understanding of how to conduct investigations which involve cryptocurrency. This course is open to beginners as well as those with intermediate knowledge who would like to improve their skillsets.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify cryptocurrencies and blockchain
  • Describe the mechanisms of blockchain
  • Identify cryptocurrency exchange regulations and recognize conversion processes
  • Explain the roles played by cryptocurrency in facilitating and creating new types of crime
  • Apply the lessons and concepts from this course to demonstrate participants investigative skills and abilities
