Dr. Miranda is the Acting Director and Chair of the Center for Criminal Justice Studies at Farmingdale State College (SUNY). She holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Forensic Science Concentration, from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Dr. Miranda is certified by the American Board of Criminalistics (ABC-GKE); is a Fellow of the Criminalistics Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences; and is also a Lifetime Member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.  Dr. Miranda has worked as a Criminalist in the Trace Evidence Analysis Unit of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) Police Lab, and as both a Medical Photographer and a Death Investigator.

Dr. Miranda is a generalist forensic scientist concerned with physical and digital traces and the roles such traces play in investigations. She has taught Computer Forensics courses focused on investigative and legal aspects of cybercrimes, and her publications include cybercrime investigations, investigations/laws related to phone (digital) apps, microchip implants and function creep, biometric technologies, and matters related to transnational crimes and security.
